What is MissionGreenFuels?
MissionGreenFuels is one of Denmark’s four InnoMissions – large, mission-driven partnerships funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. It accelerates the development and deployment of sustainable green fuels for sectors that are hard to electrify, such as shipping and aviation.
The partnership brings together over 110 participants and a budget of 500+ million DKK. It supports collaborative research, demonstration, and upscaling projects that reduce fuel production costs, enable sector integration, and strengthen Danish innovation and export capacity.
Who can apply?
Projects must be submitted by consortia that include at least one existing MissionGreenFuels partner, though new organisations may apply to join the partnership. Both Danish and international organisations are eligible to participate, including companies, universities, and public institutions, provided they are directly involved in the project activities. The main applicant must hold a Danish CVR number.
What types of projects are funded?
Supported projects are those that align with the MissionGreenFuels roadmap and contribute to key “inflection points” in the green transition. By 2030, projects should help achieve cost parity with fossil fuels and strengthen technological clarity and investor confidence. By 2050, they should support the establishment of a mature and efficient market for sustainable fuels. Proposals are expected to combine technical innovation with environmental and societal dimensions such as life-cycle assessment, safety, regulation, and social sciences.
Pool 4 – Solutions (2025 Call)
Budget: ~ 68 million DKK, funding ≤ 75 %
Project duration: ≥1 year, must end by May 2030
Theme 1: Economically viable green hydrogen by 2030
→ Industrial-scale demonstrations improving cost, efficiency, and sustainability.
Theme 2: Green fuels for shipping and aviation in 2030
→ Bio and hybrid fuel pathways (TRL ≥ 5/6) using advanced feedstocks (EU RED III).
Theme 3: Green fuels for shipping and aviation before 2050
→ Infrastructure and deployment initiatives (e.g. green corridors, port/airport integration).
Pool 5 – Solutions (2025 Call)
Budget: ~ 69 million DKK, Funding ≤ 70–75 %
Project duration: ≥1 year, must end by May 2030
Theme 1: Transformative cost reduction by 2030
→ System-wide optimisation across electrolysis, synthesis, integration, and efficiency.
Theme 2: Overcoming barriers to scaling before 2050
→ Mapping and addressing regulatory, infrastructure, and market barriers to full deployment.
Evaluation criteria
- Strategic fit with the MissionGreenFuels roadmap
- Quality of the idea (research and innovation)
- Impact (value creation during and after project)
- Quality of execution (implementation and management)
Criteria 2–4 are peer-reviewed internationally; criterion 1 is evaluated by the MissionGreenFuels Board of Directors.
Why partner with 1st Mile
1st Mile helps organisations design competitive applications under the InnoMission framework, aligning technology, impact, and consortium strategy with the programme’s goals.
