INNO-CCUS is one of Denmark’s four national mission-driven partnerships launched in 2022 to support the green transition through strategic research and innovation. Focused on carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), the programme aims to unlock the full potential of these technologies by funding collaborative projects that address key technical, societal, and systemic challenges.
The initiative is co-funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and supports applied research and innovation projects that advance Denmark’s climate goals. With DKK 350 million in total funding, INNO-CCUS represents the country’s leading ecosystem for CCUS development.
INNO-CCUS is open to research institutions, universities, companies, clusters, and other innovation actorsestablished in Denmark. Projects must be collaborative in nature and typically involve both public and private partners.
Strong applications include partners from both academia and industry and demonstrate a clear pathway to application, deployment, or market uptake. International partners may participate if their role is justified and complementary.
Projects must contribute to accelerating CCUS innovation in Denmark and align with one or more of INNO-CCUS’s five strategic workstreams:
Examples include new capture technologies, storage modelling, utilisation pathways, infrastructure development, policy frameworks, and circular economy integration. Projects are expected to have a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 5–9.
Projects can apply for grants of up to DKK 20 million, though most awarded projects receive between DKK 5 and 15 million. Funding typically covers up to 75–90% of eligible costs, depending on the type of partner and activity.
Co-financing from industry or public partners is often required and viewed positively in the evaluation process.
In general, all proposals are assessed based on relevance, innovation and impact, quality of implementation, and collaboration. Other criteria might vary depending on the call.
Calls for projects are available on the INNO-CCUS website.
